ADSS (All-Dielectric Self-Supporting) — a standalone, nonconductive jacketed cable that carries its own weight between poles without a supporting steel strand. ADSS is used where electrical isolation is needed (near power lines) because it has no metallic messenger. The steel messenger acts as a structure that supports the weight of the fiber. When galvanized tray is cut to length in the field, usually the cut surface will be painted with a zinc-rich compound to protect the metal from corrosion.
