Cable tray swing installation method

Cable tray swing installation method

The swing or trapeze support method involves suspending the cable tray from threaded rods with cross members, allowing adjustable, level installation and easy cable access.Materials and Tools RequiredThreaded rods (all-thread) for vertical suspensionHex nuts and square washers for securing cross membersCross members sized to accommodate tray clips and horizontal adjustmentCable tray clips (CG*-1 or equivalent)Drill or punch for cross member holes (1/16" to 1/8" larger than rod diameter)Level, measuring tape, and wrenches for alignment and tighteningPersonal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, and hard hatStep-by-Step Installation ProcedurePrepare the Site: Ensure the installation area is clear of obstructions and that the ceiling or support structure can bear the load. Verify approved shop drawings for tray layout, dimensions, and support spacing .Install Threaded Rods: Thread hex nuts 25 mm to 50 mm above the intended bottom of the tray. Slide on square washers. These rods will serve as vertical hangers for the cross member .Attach Cross Members: Position the cross member between the vertical rods. Insert the rods through pre-drilled or punched holes in the cross member. Ensure holes are slightly larger than the rod diameter to allow adjustment .Secure Cross Members: Thread a second set of hex nuts onto the rods, moving the top of the cross member up to the underside of the tray. Adjust the nuts to make the cross member level and snug. Verify horizontal alignment to allow tray clip installation .Install Tray Clips and Cable Tray: Attach tray clips to the cross member. The tray can be installed either inside or outside the clip depending on space and interference. Center-hung supports allow cables to be deposited from both sides, facilitating installation .Check Alignment and Level: Use a level to ensure the tray is straight and properly aligned. Adjust nuts as needed for fine-tuning. Maintain maximum support spacing of 3.6 meters and adhere to load capacity limits (318–340 kg per hanger) to ensure safety .Final Inspection: Verify that all trays, clips, and supports are secure, level, and conform to approved drawings and specifications. Ensure grounding connections are properly installed .Key ConsiderationsSupport Spacing: Typically 1.5–3 meters depending on tray type and load .Load Capacity: Maximum per hanger is 318–340 kg; do not exceed this limit .Adjustability: The trapeze system allows minor horizontal adjustments after vertical hangers are in place, providing flexibility during installation .Safety: Always follow PPE requirements and ensure the work area is safe and accessible .This method ensures a stable, level, and adjustable cable tray installation, suitable for industrial and commercial electrical systems, while allowing easy access for cable placement and maintenance.
